CHOICES DIRECTOR IS A MEMBER OF THE STOP AND SEARCH MONITORING GROUP AND ALSO SITS ON THE SAFER NEIGHBOURHOOD BOARD

The Stop and Search Community Monitoring Group:

• Provides a voice for local people on use of the power

• Looks at arrest rates, outcomes and impact

• Holds local police to account

A police officer has powers to stop and search you if they have reasonable grounds to suspect you are carrying

• illegal drugs

• a weapon

• stolen property, or

• something which could be used to commit a crime

Stop and Search is an important policing tool, however, the police don’t always get it right! Meaning it can be a key source of tension between the police and community and result in a decline in the public’s confidence.

If you are interested in becoming a member of the Stop and Search Community Monitoring Group, please contact:

The chair, Sheri Lawal at ichairsscmg@gmail.com or

The vice chair, Jennifer Gabbidonat vicechairsscmg@gmail.com

This is an independent community group which is not led by the Metropolitan Police or Islington Council.

It is supported by the Mayor of London’s Office (MOPAC).

The Safer Neighbourhood Board (SNB)

The SNB is part of Islington's Community Safety team. This SNB was set up in 2014 by Islington Council and the Police to give local people and victims a greater voice in setting policing priorities and improve consultation between the community, the Police, the council and other partners.
